Things to do on La Margarita

Below are listed a range of activities available for you to enjoy on or near La Margarita. Click on the titles for more information about each activity.

Horse Riding
If you love horse riding you will love riding in the famous pampas around La Margarita (see special section on horse riding for more info
Milking the Cows
The Estancia has its own herd of cows and we are happy to show you how to milk them and then let you try your hand at milking them yourself. The milking is done by the old fashioned way – meaning it is done by hand – a great experience if you have never done it. We also use the milk we take from the cows on La Margarita.
Massage and Reflexology
A professionally trained masseuse will travel to the estancia at your request to offer you a variety of massage and beauty options.  Her techniques include using oils, hot stones or bamboo and are particularly relaxing after an hour or two in the saddle.  The price is 100 pesos for a 50 minute massage.
Cycling
There are a number of bikes located on the estancia for you to use. Some guests have even taken up the challenge to rider to town – its only 12 kilometers away!
Bochas (Bowls)
Bochas is a game very similar to the French game of boules.  It is extremely popular with the estancia workers and they will be happy to teach you how to play.  They will also be happy to accept a challenge from the experts amongst you.
Swimming Pool
The outside pool is an excellent size and in the summer you are free to make full use of it.  The pool is generally open from December to April.
Bird Watching

Over 60 different breeds of birds have been spotted at the estancia to date.  Will you spot the 61st?  For the photographers among you they present a fabulous opportunity to take some great photos.

Relaxing
La Margarita is perfect for those of you who are looking to rest and relax before, during or after your travel adventures in South America. It is a totally peaceful place for you to enjoy being at peace with nature, reading a book or getting into the gentle rhythm of countryside life.  We have a large selection of books and magazines to borrow or exchange.[/spoiler ]

Walking

Walking in la pampas is a joy and there is over 1,000 hectares of land to be explored at La Margarita. We only ask that you respect the animals and don’t leave litter that may harm them.

Television
We don’t want to spoil the peace and quiet most visitors expect when they come to our estancia, so we don’t have television in the rooms at La Margarita.  But we do realise that it rains sometimes (and there may be an important game on!) so we do now have Direct TV on the estancia.  It is located away from the main house, so unless you need to watch it won’t bother you.
Chapel
We have a chapel on La Margarita which is a perfect place to meditate due to its peacefulness
Visit the Historic San Gervasio Pulperia
No trip to the estancia is complete without a trip to the San Gervasio Pulperia, a traditional bar where Gauchos went, and indeed still go, to relax after a hard day’s work. One of only 18 original pulperias still in existence in the Province of Buenos Aires it offers a look back in time when Gauchos enjoyed an evening drink and the occasional fight.  Well worth a visit.  Cost 40 pesos per person, minimum 2 people.
Golf
The nearby 9 hole Tapalqué Golf Club is a well-maintained handicap course.  We can arrange equipment hire and transport. Please consult us for the price.
A trip to Tapalque
Tapalque is an interesting town where doors are left unlocked, bikes unchained and the pace of life is slow and steady.  Just like it should be!  We can arrange trips into Tapalque where you can experience the real Argentina, shop for souvenirs or necessities, visit the Gaucho Museum, the church or the railway station that has been converted into a small school, wander along the river or check your emails at the internet café.
